Catenian Public Speaking Contest

The Catenian Public Speaking Contest 2023

The Catenian Association has a longstanding tradition of supporting young people, including hosting an annual public speaking competition for local Catholic schools.

We were invited, along with 34 Primary schools in the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education trust, to submit videos of our Year 6 Pupils, speaking about a topic they felt passionate about.

Our pupils spoke confidently and clearly on a range of interesting and though provoking themes.

Two of our pupils, Khadija Goni and Evangeline Cross, were selected to be put forward to a panel of Judges. We were delighted to find out that Envangeline was then further selected by the judging panel to present her speech to a live audience at Sacred Heart High School, on Friday morning.

Evangeline delivered an astounding speech around the topic of discrimination. She spoke so eloquently and with a clear passion for the subject.
Evangeline was commended for her dictation and the way in which she remained calm and confident throughout - despite speaking in front of an audience and panel of judges.

All 6 finalists were a real credit to their schools. We are extremely proud of Evangeline and she is a credit to English Martyrs' Primary school.

On her return to school, Evangeline shared her speech with the whole school, during our celebration assembly. We are sure that our pupils will have learned a lot from Evangeline's speech and will have been inspired to want to develop their own public speaking skills.

A huge 'Well done!' from all of us at English Martyrs'
