Intent sentence

The aim of our PSHE curriculum at English Martyrs’ is to equip our children with the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. We provide our children with opportunities to learn about rights and responsibitlies and to appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Our children are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.

We hope to provide a PSHE curriculum that develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge and skills which enables children to access the wider curriculum and prepares them  to be global citizens now, and in their future roles within a global community.

Our PSHE curriculum will be delivered in a variety of ways e.g. lessons, assemblies, worskshops, nurture groups and extra curricular activities. We utilise relevant external schemes e.g. Jigsaw, Ten Ten, Thrive to help our staff deliver age appropriate, differentiated content.

Our healthy school program equips children with a knowledge of food nutrition, the value of exercise and the importance of  their mental health in an age appropriate way. We believe it is essential for our children to have an understanding of how their choices affect their well being – to ensure they are physically, emotionally and mentally healthy to maximise their learning experiences. Our ultimate aim is that children use their knowledge and understanding to become happy and healthy adults.
