Spelling Frame

This term we will be trialling a programme called Spelling Frame instead of our weekly spelling lists.

Spelling Frame includes all the words – both statutory and the example words – from the KS1 and KS2 National Curriculum. These are the words that the children are tested on each half term. Children can either choose a spelling rule and each word is read aloud and provided within a sentence for context, or they can log into the dashboard to practice the words allocated to them by the teacher.

Children can choose to practise a set of words or take a test. If these choose to practice they will see the word broken down into syllables and will then be given a series of activities to help them to memorise the spelling. The activities develop increasing independence. If your child spells the word correctly, they move onto the next word. If they make a mistake, they repeat the process to help them learn the word.

If your child chooses to be tested they receive instant feedback. If they make a mistake they are shown the correct spelling and given a series of activities to help them to remember.

The benefits of the programme are that teachers can set weekly spellings and receive information on how children have done in practises and tests. As children use the programme more and more, the spellings become more personalised because any words they have spelt incorrectly in a previous practice or test, is automatically added to their tricky word list. This means children are specifically working on their own spelling lists.

Your child, over the next few days, will be coming home with their login details. Children will also have the log in details stuck in their reading record book.

We are confident that personalised nature of spelling frames and the way spellings are taught in the programme will help children to hear/see/build and spell their word list with more independence and ensure the correctly spelled words are retained and used in written work across the curriculum.

Many thanks
